Twin Cities Black Journalists (TCBJ) is the Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. The chapter was founded in 1987 by a small, determined group of professional journalists who advocated to improve the quality of TV and press coverage of Minnesota’s black community, and increase the number of black journalists employed in newsrooms throughout the state. Today, TCBJ continues to advocate for more consistent, quality coverage of the state’s racial and ethnic communities, as well as for more equitable employment opportunities for journalists. TCBJ has a solid track record for helping African-American students pursue an education and career in the journalism field. Each year, TCBJ hosts scholarship fundraisers that has awarded more than $10,000 in scholarships to journalism students since 2000. In recent years, TCBJ has provided scholarships for local students to attend the national convention. TCBJ is making a positive impact on the lives of every Minnesota resident. We encourage you to support our efforts for increased educational and career opportunities and improved coverage by becoming a member, participating in our programs, or donating to our projects. For membership applications, please contact TCBJ President Nicole Norfleet at nicole.norfleet@startribune.com. Read more about membership at the JOIN page.
