Hey TCBJ members,
We know that this is a stressful and lonely time for a lot of us. We want you to know that TCBJ and NABJ are here for you. As a chapter, we are trying our best to check in with members and pivot our programming to better reflect the current needs of local journalists and the general public. Please don’t hesitate to turn to our board officers with any concerns whether professional or personal. Individual emails for board members are at the end of this email.
We are exploring ways to continue our internship program as well as how to adjust to support members in light of the now virtual national convention. We will continue to update our TCBJ Facebook group page with resources and job postings. We also have seen success with connecting with members via our monthly virtual meetings. We are considering other means to connect virtually such as Facebook Live dance parties. Stay tuned for announcements on that.
NABJ has asked members to fill out a survey on how the current health crisis has impacted you. NABJ has also offered several different webinars as resources for journalists. Replay Webinar: Best Practices for Communications Professionals During A Crisis- How to Manage Your Job Utilizing A Virtual Environment Here. Replay Webinar: COVID-19 and the Hardships for Contract Workers: Navigating Financial and Emotional Health During a Pandemic Here. Replay Webinar: Covering The Coronavirus: A Reporters Guide to Covering The Pandemic Here.
A group of U.S. journalists also has started a microloans program for journalists helping journalists with borrowing $500 to pay back within a year.
We would like to encourage members to continue to stay engaged by dialing into our meetings, voting in our upcoming chapter elections and paying chapter dues. It can be easy to think that you are alone, but we are all in this together.
